Sustainability. Not something we’ve historically shouted about.
Almost certainly as a result of once living on a narrowboat, we (that’s co-founders Chris and Caroline) have always adopted environmentally conscious behaviours.
Firstly by necessity – living on a boat makes you become acutely aware of your consumption of all water, electric, batteries and so on as you might imagine.
When we moved to a house, we simply carried on our frugal usage without thinking about it.
Being an extremely practical farmer, Chris doesn’t think twice about re-purposing pretty much everything.
This has naturally carried on into Raising the Baa, again without being overtly conscious about it.
Apparently we’ve been “green-hushing”, the polar opposite of “green-washing” 😆
So with encouragement and guidance from some wise third parties, we have recently added a Sustainability Charter to our website.
No detailed metrics yet (that’s the next stage) but at least an overview of our sustainable practices.
Next step is to make a series of short videos bringing some of these elements to life, so watch this space.
The photo above was taken on a gloriously sunny Spring day in 2025 on one of our venue partner sheep farms, this one near Stevenage in Hertfordshire. As you can see it has its own wind turbine, demonstrating their move towards more renewable and responsible energy.
And we know that this team was delighted with the day they chose for their off-site retreat 😎
