Sustainability Charter

At Raising the Baa, sustainability isn’t just an added bonus—it’s a way of life. As a family-run business deeply connected to farming and the countryside, we are passionate about creating teambuilding experiences that are as kind to the planet as they are impactful for your team.

Our Commitments:

Harnessing Renewable Energy

  • Our operations are powered in part by solar panels installed at our home/office, and we have switched to Octopus as our main energy supplier.
  • One of our two business vehicles is electric to minimise transport-related emissions.
  • Co-founder and Head Shepherd Chris rides his e-bike for short journeys (towing his working dog too!), saving further wear and tear on his 25-year old vehicle as well as reducing emissions.  During lambing season alone he cycles over 300 miles!

Low-Impact Activities and Materials

  • Experiential learning programmes are designed to blend seamlessly into their natural environment, requiring no artificial structures or energy-intensive setups.

  • Much of our equipment is handcrafted by co-founder Chris from recycled and repurposed materials.

Supporting Like-Minded Partners

  • The caterers, meeting venues, and accommodation providers we collaborate with are chosen for their alignment as much as possible with our sustainability values, including local sourcing, eco-friendly operations and waste reduction practices.

Minimising Emissions

  • One of our two company vehicles is electric, powered as much as possible by our solar energy, generated at our home office.
  • We actively promote car-sharing or multi-passenger vehicle hire for clients travelling to our venues.
  • In collaboration with our clients, venues are selected to reduce unnecessary travel distances.
  • By staging events on farms throughout the country, this avoids unnecessary transportation of livestock in fuel-heavy vehicles.

Conscious Consumption

  • Catering materials used are reusable, recyclable, or biodegradable to ensure minimal waste.
  • Client participants are encouraged to bring their own refillable water bottles and cups, otherwise we use washable, reusable drinking vessels.
  • Refreshments are locally sourced and seasonal, supporting nearby producers while reducing food miles.

Supporting Farmers

  • We work with farms that prioritise sustainable practices and wildlife preservation, ensuring our activities leave the land undisturbed and thriving.
  • All waste is taken away at the end of our events and recycled or composted wherever possible.
  • Through our network of farming partners we provide them with a secondary income stream.

Continuous Commitment

  • Sustainability is an evolving journey. We are committed to regularly evaluating and improving our practices to stay aligned with environmental best practices.
  • As with so many businesses, Scope 3 emissions are the hardest to control and remain a focus for us in all areas.

Making a Difference Together

By choosing Raising the Baa, you’re not only fostering collaboration and innovation within your team—you’re also supporting a business committed to safeguarding our planet for future generations.

UN 17 Sustainable goals

Sustainability - E_SDG_logo_UN_emblem_square_trans_WEB-1024×879

In 2015, the United Nations launched 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that call on governments, businesses and other stakeholders, to take action on the biggest issues facing people and the planet by 2030.

Raising the Baa has chosen three SDGs which we feel, in collaboration with our charity partner Ripple Effect and the support of our clients, we can positively contribute towards. These goals reflect our vision and values, meaning they are close to our heart in all aspects of our business.
