#49. Is the grass always greener for leaders?

#49. Is the grass always greener for leaders? - dreamstime_s_26027736-800×480

Self-described “obsessed with possibility” Stacey Ashley has over 30 years of experience in coaching high performance leadership competence, confidence and credibility.  Talking to us from the gorgeous city of Sydney, Australia, we delve straight into the topic of ‘possibility’. Where did this obsession come from and how does it play out for Stacey and those she influences?

Naturally Chris sees an analogy with sheep, which will always believe the grass is greener.  Some sheep will regularly challenge the electric fencing just to see if it really is still working, such is their belief that there are greater possibilities in the next field.  Are these sheep natural leaders we wonder?

For people, and in particular leaders as we discuss here, the status quo must not always be accepted. There may always be a better, faster, more efficient way – as reflected by the Olympian motto “Faster – Higher – Stronger”.

Stacey believes that if 2020 was the sprint of leadership, 2021 is the start of a marathon.  Leaders face years of significant change and transformation. They will be challenged with the ongoing fatigue of surge capacity depletion, as well as the need to maintain relevance for themselves, their teams and their businesses in a world that is markedly different from 2019. On this topic, we discuss Stacey’s latest book Show Up 21 which sets out 5 practical strategies to help activate leadership and rise to the challenge.

To help boost your leadership performance, Stacey invites you to participate in her FREE 28-day self-coaching challenge, which will build your own coaching tool kit to use with your own team.

So what four words (one for each leg of the sheep or dog of course) will Stacey use to describe the most extraordinary team? We conclude our conversation with this question to each of our guests and as yet no two have been the same.

If this episode has prompted any questions for Stacey, Chris or Caroline, please go ahead and ask – either email [email protected] or leave it in your 5-star review!
